Betty Gross (bagnaturephotos)  > Nature > Travel Journal of My Trip to Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Mt. Rushmore and Custer State Park in South Dakota
This is a very different approach than I usually take when I have new photos. This trip was taken September 9th - 21st of 2006. It's an amazing trip I'd recommend to anyone that has the stamina to drive the nearly 5,000 miles it took from home! There are comments under most pictures that describe parts of our trip or the scenery contained in the photos. It was a long trip, so feel free to make our journey in several visits to my website.

Special thanks to my husband, Dick, for being such an incredibly patient tour guide and photo assistant!

Please leave comments on this new approach - I really would love to hear your thoughts on this gallery!!

As always, I really appreciate you taking the time to browse.

It's amazing how just a few hours away from where you live the landscape changes so dramatically. If you notice, there's a house near the trees in the back of the photo - it looks horribly small.....and that's because everything else is so large! They say everything is bigger in Texas.....I don't think they've cornered the market by any stretch!
Betty Gross (bagnaturephotos) > (Sunflowers for Cindy) My friend is a nut for sunflowers - I couldn't take a photo of just one, but I could take a photo of thousands! The sunflower fields are as big as the wide open spaces in South Dakota. (and if Cindy isn't grateful, she loses points!)
Betty Gross (bagnaturephotos) > (Beartooth Highway #1) Charles Kurault said this was the most beautiful highway in the nation. It is, but it's definetly not for the faint of heart! Hairpin turns, no guardrails, and lots of incentive to stay away from the edge!! But, it certainly is incredible! This pass was closed because of snow causing us to end our stay in Yellowstone early - and it was only September 16th. Kinda puts things in perspective for us Midwesterners, doesn't it??
Betty Gross (bagnaturephotos) > (Beartooth Highway #2) This shot was lower on the highway.....there was still vegetation!
Betty Gross (bagnaturephotos) > (Beartooth Highway #3) By this point we were well above the tree line - you'll notice that there are no guardrails. This highway qualifies as a character builder!
Betty Gross (bagnaturephotos) > (Beartooth Highway #4) This is still higher than the last photo - now we're above the snow - and this snow was left over from last year!
Betty Gross (bagnaturephotos) > (Beartooth Highway #5) A very rugged perspective of the Beartooth Mountain Range. Just a mere 1,450 miles from Chicago, IL - quite a difference, I'd say!
Betty Gross (bagnaturephotos) > (Yellowstone Greeter) At Wal-Mart you get the folks in the blue vest......in Yellowstone you get Buffalo - and lots and lots of buffalo - which will prove itself in a couple of photos that will follow.
Betty Gross (bagnaturephotos) > (Prong-horned Antelope) Second only to the buffalo in population are the antelope. They seem compatible with most of the other wildlife as well as horses and cows. It's not unusual to see Antelope mingling in the fields with the other wildlife.
